Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday to my best friend in the whole wide world. We've been friends since meeting on October 3rd, 1983 at a wrestling match at our high school and MB and I had front row seats and she didn't. J saw me and asked me if she could come sit with me and I, being the pushover that I was, said yeah. Ha/HaThat started a wonderful and powerful friendship full of triumphs and hardships. We've been through sicknesses (mostly mine with my messed up chromosome cracked genes), marriages (yes, plural- only two though for each of us), divorces (only one each), children's births (Okay, I missed her kids being born- sorry sweetie- but she was there for me with both of mine), losses of loved ones, jobs, schools, hardships, our children growing up and driving us insane one moment and bringing us utter amazement and pride the next. Yep, we've been through it all. We've often said our lives would be much better than Days of Our Lives, we'd call it "As Our World Swirls" or "Utter Chaos". That doesn't mean we haven't had our moments, there were several times where we came close to shutting the door on our friendship, mostly because of my stupid screw ups. But she forgave me for all my wrong doings and we are stronger than ever.
We still talk or email almost everyday and are very active in each other's lives. One of our favorite pasttimes is getting together for a good game of Spades and drinking cranberry juice and vodka (does that have a real name) or a good margarita.
Anyhow, it is her birthday and I have written her a poem. Here goes.
I love you girl. Thanks for always being there for me.
Friends Forever
Like a needle in a hay stack,
True friends are hard to find.
That's why I am so grateful,
That I can call you mine.
Whenever I need a shoulder,
You're there to catch my tears.
You've kept my many secrets,
Throughout the passing years.
You've been there in my triumphs,
You've witnessed my defeats.
I'll always cherish the good times,
And pray the bad ones won't repeat.
With you my heart is honest,
And I'll cherish you forever.
For the rest of our lives, I'll promise,
To be there for you, whenever.
